ThjB&UILFORDIAN GREENSBORO, NC SIF auction canceled Alison Duncan Staff Writer he annual auction that -*- supports the Student Loan Fund has been can celed this year, though the cancellation will not affect the recipients of the Loan. "All students will still receive their money" said Anne Lundquist, Dean for Campus Life. Lundquist helped coordi nate the auction last year and advised this year's organiz ers. There is currently enough money in the Fund to support the 23 students who receive loans from SI,OOO to $ 6,000. Because it is a loan fund and not a scholarship fund, the repayment and interest from past recipients keeps the loan fund afloat in conjunction with the profits from the auc tion each year. The auction typically nets just under $20,000 per year, and the school provides money for the remainder of the loans. Eventually, with enough auctions, there will be as much money going out each year as coming in. The Student Loan Fund was modeled after the Perkins Loan, which is capable of sup porting itself after 50 years. Klinghard, who graduated last spring, was 23 years old. Also in the car was Dain Roose- Snyder, a Guilford alumnus from the class of 2002. Roose-Snyder was driving and also was injured but is recovering. A memorial service was held for Klinghard March 11 in Tuscumcia, Alabama's First Baptist Church. There, family and friends from the all places he has lived, including North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, and Virginia, gath ered to remember and honor him. He lived in the Pines and served on the Judicial Board and Judicial Review committee. Klinghard also volunteered at a YMCA program for inner-city children and helped African refugee families. He majored in English with a German Language and Culture con centration at Guilford. "I enjoyed having him in class and working with him ih independent studies," said David Limburg, German pro fessor, in the Guilford Beacon. Klinghard moved to Washington, D.C., in January and was going to begin an internship for the National Parks Federation the day after his accident.
